Almost half my life has been wasted on this thing called IRC. For you n00bz out there, IRC is the oldest and most chaotic chat network ever. It’s like walking into a super loud and packed bar. I mostly hang out in #skate (on efnet) and have seen a ton of nerd come and go. I even met some amazing #skate people in real life.

A few months ago some oldskooler joined the channel and asked where everyone was. That got me thinking, so I decided to do some research.

I started at the IRC sexchart which has a little #skate section:

               .----- liquidnun capital7

         | | | | | |
       lisi superzan -- huphtur -- tigerkat -- kindje |
        | | |
      maui punkgirl -- yakuza -- maryjane |
        | cchicken ---------------'| | |
     moldie ftzdomino --|-- caroline -- rhy |
                                       | .-----------------'
          no_fievel -- nobaboon -- conchita -- superfly
                                     |
                         angee -- mrjoost -- makita

And with the help of some other #skate regulars I came up with a list. For privacy reasons I left out any real names and links to blogs. If you are on the list and wish to reveal more information about yourself, or know the whereabouts of some of the missing names and details, leave a comment or gmail me and I will update the list. Better yet… /join #skate

Couple of weeks ago I went for my weekly 4 mile morning run and to my surprise my GPS watch told me I ran it at a 7:30 pace. I normally don’t run that fast and couldn’t figure out why, until Kyle told me this was due to me being a hipster on the fixie. Biking does wonders for the quads and helps tremendously for running. So I decided to enter the Nike Run Hit Remix and see if I could run the 5 mile race at that 7:30 pace.

The start of the race was hectic. I was in the front but somehow there were still tons of slow people, people with baby strollers and even people stopping and taking pictures ahead of me. After some weaving through traffic I finally got in my pace and started to zone out. In fact, I was so much in the zone, that I didn’t even recognize my buddy Mike giving me a high five when we crossed paths. The finish of this race is always the best, you go through the tunnel and end right inside the LA Coliseum.

My GPS watch displayed a finish time of 36:17 with an average pace of 7:10. However, it also said the length of the course was 5.07 miles (no idea how that’s possible). So I will have to wait for the official results online. But I definitely set a PR!

UPDATE: Official time is not gonna happen since the timing chips didn’t register at the start. Good thing I had my nerd watch. However, images have been posted, and I look like a sack of shit.

I just stood in line with all the other Muggles for 4 hours to get the last Harry Potter book. That’s right, the LAST… it’s finito.

Upon receiving my copy, I ran straight out to the parking lot, skipped to the last page of the book and was blown the eff away. Strap in dudes, you’re about to be taken for a ride:

Harry Potter = Luke Skywalker

Ron Weasley = Han Solo

Hermione Grainger = Princess Leia

Sirius Black = Obi Wan

Dumbeldore = Yoda

Draco Malfoy = Boba Fett

Voldemort = Darth Vader, Harry’s Father!!!

Hope I’m not ruining it for anyone, but Hogwart’s (The Rebels) blow up the Death Star.

Couple of days ago Nic informed me that there’s this douche that has been republishing some content of not only The Hot Crew but also of Pushingwood, Skateboarding Sucks, éS Footwear and Rob Brink. The douche also hot linked our images, which opened up some retaliation possibilities. All the affected site admins had a little power meeting and we decided to have a little nerd fun with the douche.

First I created a LOLcat. Image supplied (with approval of course) by the lovely Malingering. Who takes the coolest cat photos.

Then we synchronized our watches and at exactly 11am PST we all adjusted our Apache .htaccess file with a few simple lines. Now any hot linked image on the douche site is replaced by the LOLcat.
