June 7th, 2007 by huphtur under africa, music, politicsNormally I try to steer clear of politics on this little useless blog, but with the recent hype on Vanity Fair and their 20 different covers they did to create awareness for Africa, I have to chime in here and point your attention to an article published in Der Spiegel titled “For God’s Sake, Please Stop the Aid!“. It’s the most logical explanation of why all this help to Africa is actually making it worse. Read it and throw your (Red) crap out the window.
And to Bono: Stop promoting aid to Africa, you douche, stick to what you’re good at: singing, entertaining and being a jester.

First of all I had no idea that Spiegal was available in English. I found that interview to be pretty interesting but I doubt any country is going to stop aid to Africa and try to tell people it is a good thing. Maybe that guy should have mentioned http://www.kiva.org/ which allows people to make loans to people in Africa so that they can start their own businesses. People want to help, they just don’t always know the best way to do it.

My favorite part was where all the clothes (old soccer jerseys) were being donated by German people, then sold back to them on eBay for tons more money. I always thought that the homeless could become super rich if they all got eBay accounts and knowledge of what retro clothes were worth.

I think it’s pretty funny how 2 (or 3?) issues ago VF did a “Green” issue, bringing “awareness” to ourGlobal climate problems, etcetc, then come back and do 20 covers a few issues later. De-forrestation, consider yourself PAWNED!
