Viva Fidel

Dude, some times I get mad at how ignorant I am. In this particular case it was my limited knowledge of Fidel Castro and Cuba. A very close friend of mine had his dad imprisoned by Castro’s regime so I automatically was saying, “Fuck that dude”. Then one night the wife and I rented “Motorcycle Diaries” which was a movie about Che before he became a revolutionary(Fidels right hand man and famous hipster t-shirt graphic at this point). After the movie I was like, “Shit, I don’t know crap about Che let alone Cuba and Fidel”. Then my wife (being the research nerd that she is) found a documentary about Fidel. I just watched it I want to say a few words to my history teachers and most of the US media: FUCK YOU. I’m not saying I’m going to go join Fidels Revolution but the little facts I had (which was from my schooling and the media) about Castro was really twisted. I don’t want to get to deep and bore some of you with a history lesson but I reccommend checking that movie (Fidel) out. Not only does it give a lot of historical facts but it also demonstrates what a collective conscious can do when shit isn’t right. If you are into documentary films pick this one up. Afterwards meet me at the town hall so we can plan our revolution.

I think I saw the PBS American Experience about Fidel shortly after watching motorcycle Diaries. There’s definitely a lot I never knew abtou those guys.

Never let the mainstream US media or US schools teach you history. To do it right, you have to study it yourself. What’s that saying, that history is always written by those that win the wars or something like that? In other words, the story you typically hear is always going to be one sided. It’s your responsibility to check into both sides of the story.

For real wskrz. The more I read and watch documentaries on various points in history I realize how fucked US versions of history are. It saddens me though cause the majority in this country are cool with just following the herd and eat what is spoon fed to them in terms of bullshit. On another note, it’s mind bloiwng to me how we have a such a fuctard for a president. This country wanted to hang a president who got a blow job but the president who lied and should be held responsible for the thouands of deaths over in the Middle East (and lets not forget our own backyard…Nahlenz’) only looses a few acceptance points in the polls. Fuck that…can some one wake me when the nightmare is over.

let me start by saying I agree with you guys, what was taught to us in school must be questioned. But also this documentary should be questioned as well, like who made it and why? Now..I kinda have an inverse story, I have read and seen a LOT of movies about Cuba, was (still am) really interested in that time and place in history. I like the ideas of communism (in theory), I really like the ideas of decreasing the gaps between the rich and poor. I thought I had a firm grip on the subject, until I meant my roommate. he is Cuban. He and his family are now ban from Cuba for fighting against the rebels. he has told me some stories that, have not ‘changed’ my mind, but definitely got me thinking about it in a different way again. The truth is, you really have no idea what is ‘good’ and ‘bad’ unless you experience it yourself. Stories, movies, and media are mostly told with an agenda, including my roommates stories. on a side note here is a pretty good movie (not documentary) that could change your mind again…and bill Murray is in it to boot…http://indie.imdb.com/title/tt0343996/

On a related note, there’s a good article in April’s National Geographic titled Venezuela According to Chavez.

It’s not Cuban history, but have you seen The Agronomist? Great flick. (sorry to knock this post even more off kilter)

Dude, ignorance is so dope. I don’t have to worry about the stress of knowing like, where there’s a war happening and shit…Who is this Fidel guy anyway?
And speaking of current events and important topics, did anyone see/hear the fart olympics on Stern last week? Epic. Will the farter logged 78 farts in one minute as well as an 18 second fart. Winning two of three events (most farts in a minute and longest fart, respectively). He lost to “Flex” in the loudness competition, but was still able to take the title and the $5,000 prize money. A landmark accomplishment if I do say so myself. Do you think Fidel farted a lot? I wonder if he laughed at his farts or enjoyed the smell of them…now that would make a brilliant documentary. “The Bowels of Castro.”

P.S.
Where’s Cuba? Don’t people come here from there on rafts and shit?

Hi there,
I’m from Mexico and I want to say the latinoamerican history sounds like that. In a short example, CIA’s invested 10 million dolars to kill Salvador Allende in Chile. Now at day, here in Mexico, we’re fighting without hands to remove our neoliberalist goverment which has done the worst antidemocratic political campaign in the past few months in Mexico’s history.
Best regards.
